The Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for 2.5 years to join the project Effects of Wetland Restoration on GHG-Balance and Ecosystem Function (ReWet) funded by the Icelandic Research Fund.

Fluxes from drained peatlands are the single largest component of Iceland‘s GHG budget, but national emission numbers are mostly based on IPCC’s default values due to lack of local studies. The ReWet project addresses in detail the GHG fluxes and carbon-, water- and energy cycles of a drained peatland in W-Iceland, and how those change when the area is rewetted. The project is led by the Agricultural University of Iceland and other collaborators come from University of Akureyri, the Institute of Land and Forest Iceland, Svarmi ehf. and University of Helsinki.

• Activities include operation and interpretation of eddy covariance flux (methane, carbon dioxide) and chamber (nitrox oxide and the other GHGs) measurements, combined with estimates of aquatic carbon export and a suit of supporting soil and vegetation measurements.
• Supervising personnel and graduate students and interacting with other team members.
• The postdoc will be expected to organize, analyse, and maintain large data sets generated from a number of sensors and measurement systems.
• Publications in peer-reviewed academic journals in cooperation with other participants.

Capability
• Doctoral degree in the fields of environmental sciences, ecosystem ecology, wetland ecology, physical geography or any other closely related subject.
• Demonstrated experience with EC data and micrometeorological theory and/or the chamber technique, including data processing and interpretation.
